If you’re seeking an event space in Fredericksburg VA for a small gathering, we offer both indoor and outdoor options. From intimate weddings / elopements to corporate retreats or other business meetings, we can accommodate event parties up to 40 in our outdoor courtyard, or up to 20 in our indoor spaces. We offer a beautiful setting either an inside or outside for your special day, with options at both our main inn and the 1890 Caroline House. A base fee (see Event Pricing above) reserves either space from 11am – 3pm for a “no fuss” event (you provide decor, etc.). Need something with a few more frills? Then one of our Elopement Packages could be the perfect option!

Room blocks can be reserved in association with events as well. For full-house booking at 1890 Caroline House and for blocks of four or more rooms at The Richard Johnston Inn, additional cleaning fees apply and a gratuity will be added per room. Please call for more details.

Event Terms & Conditions – Updated 12/9/2025
- Any rental equipment required or requested for the event will be charged to the contract signer. Please see the Innkeeper for rental prices and options.
- We would be happy to help you source a wedding cake. Please see the Innkeeper for details.
- A guaranteed number of guests attending your event functions is required two weeks prior to the event date.
- The throwing of rice, glitter, or confetti is not permitted on the property.
- Children must be supervised at all times. It is the guest’s responsibility to provide babysitting arrangements if necessary.
- The contract signer is responsible for all room charges, along with the exclusive use of space fee.
- All Food & Beverage is subject to a 25% gratuity.
- All persons consuming liquor must be at least 21 years of age.
- Visibly intoxicated guests may be asked to leave at the discretion of The Richard Johnston Inn management.
- Any décor must be cleaned up by the contract signer at the conclusion of the event.
- Smoking is prohibited in all Richard Johnston Inn buildings. Any evidence of smoking in any building will result in a $250 charge per room in question for cleanup to contract signer’s credit card on file.
- Any damages and/or destruction of property, loss of keys, or excessive cleanup will result in the contract signer’s credit card being charged in full to cover any and all damages incurred during their event/stay.
- Gratuity will be added for a block of rooms of 4 or more rooms.
- Additional hours may be added for an additional fee.
